This is a foldable inflatable changing station for homeless women that contains pockets in it to hold the sanitation products. There is also a bag that keeps the inflatable folded. The bag will contain a folder with laminated, well designed, easy-to-read, directions-checklist (phone numbers to call for housing and social services), a map of free internet Link NYC places, a map of public toilets, a sanitary kit (feminine hygiene products, hair brush, small mirror, toothbrush, toothpaste, moisturizer, chapstick, etc).
Either Mylar or white plastic, not sure yet which one will be easier to work with.
To give homeless people (especially women) some privacy to change when public bathrooms are closed or too far. To have a place that also has a folder with steps outlined in simple language and easy to follow directions for how to go about getting off of the streets.
Desired End Result
Also to inspire others to care more about these issues and to draw more attention to the issue in order to encourage local governments to tackle these issues more efficiently once the public eye is turned on them to act.
The act of making something for the homeless may inspire hope in them to fight for themselves. The idea is that if we don't give up on them, they won't either? Another important aspect to homeless women is the feeling of dignity. If you are able to stay clean and have privacy and look more or less acceptable, you have more self-respect and it is easier to transition out of living on the street, easier to get hired, to get access to public restrooms, and easier to convince others to believe and invest in you.
Homeless women (though maybe also men).
Measure of Success
The inflatable should be easy to fold and deflate and should be usable at least ten times. The bag it comes in should be durable and last longer.
